Why International Adoption?

Why not?
We have five biological children.
We weren't planning on having any more children.
Last year our youngest son (who has Spina Bifida) had the most challenging year of his life.
He had bilateral hip surgery that lasted 12 long hours.
The next day he took a turn for the worse and needed a blood transfusion.
After six weeks, the weekend his body cast came off, he broke his femur in half.  
Basically last year was the year of casts and hospital visits.
How blessed we were during that year.
How many people reached out....how many people prayed for him...how amazing our medical system is.
Towards the end of the year, when Kumaka started on an upward turn, my husband and I turned to each other and said "How do we give back?"
We thought about all of the children that have Spina Bifida...domestically and internationally.  
Our hearts were drawn internationally for one reason.
Children with Kumaka's disability WILL GET THEIR CARE HERE.
They will not be turned away from a hospital or a life saving treatment.
Children in other countries with Kumaka's disability die.
At 7 years old, if someone doesn't adopt the little girl we are in the process of adopting, she will go into the adult mental institution.
Where they will leave her in a crib because she does not talk or walk. 
She can't communicate her needs to them.
She would die.
If I can alleviate the suffering of one child, bring one child into our loving home, give that child the love and medical support she needs to  be as healthy and happy as possible, I ask you....WHY NOT?
There are children all over the world that need help.
That much is true.
Every family has a unique situation and set of circumstances. 
This is ours.
